The ultimate tool for diagnosing EEV motor problems on VRF and Ductless Split systems. Instead of pulling out the needle probes to take resistance readings, just connect the valve to the EEV Thing, hold down the button to scan, then press to cycle through resistances on all 4 coil windings.
If one of the windings has failed it can sometimes take out the control board as well. Just cut the plug end off of the failed EEV and wire it into the other side. Now you can plug the EEV thing into the control board and check that it is outputting 12VDC to every winding.
While there are devices out there made to drive EEVs, the resistance of the motor windings still needed to be checked the old fashioned way. The EEV Thing is the perfect companion to an EEV driver, or as a standalone tool for diagnostics.
Works with 5 and 6 wire unipolar stepper motors with 2.54mm connector pitch, which covers the vast majority of EEVs in VRF equipment.
